Privacy Policy

The short version

You can practice without an account. Dictations, scores and settings then stay in your browser. Glottago never stores the text you type, your audio or transcripts on its servers. Glottago has no ads, does not sell data and uses no tracking cookies.

What Glottago stores

In your browser (local storage, keys starting with pw.): your daily goal, personal bests, dictation count, study plan, chosen languages, theme and guest profile. You can clear them in your browser settings.

On our servers (Supabase), only after your first finished dictation, unless you turn off "Save my progress online" on your profile: an anonymous account, your display name, preset avatar, daily goal, personal bests, dictation count, XP, leaderboard choice and study plan. If you add an email, we also store it, to let you sign in. We store the number of tutor conversations and feedback requests you used each day, and nothing else about them.

Leaderboards and public profiles show your display name, avatar, scores and level only while you are on a leaderboard.

When something you write or say leaves your device

Writing feedback, only when you ask for it: the text of your writing task goes to Google's Gemini through our server to be graded. Glottago does not store it. On Google's free tier, Google may use it to improve its products. Your profile data is not sent.

Voice tutor, only during a conversation you start: your voice goes to Google's Gemini to be written down, the text goes to Gemini for the reply, and the reply goes to Microsoft Azure to be spoken. When you say a phrase from a card, your voice also goes to Azure to check your pronunciation. This passes through Glottago's tutor server, which stores nothing. To set up the voice connection, your browser and our server ask Cloudflare's public STUN service for their public addresses, so Cloudflare sees your IP address. The page says this before the microphone opens. On Google's free tier, Google may use your voice and the text to improve its products.

Transcripts of your own audio, only if you ask: the speech model is downloaded from Hugging Face once. Your audio is processed on your device and is not sent anywhere.

Service providers

Supabase (database and accounts), Vercel (hosting and cookie-free page counts), Google (Gemini), Microsoft Azure (voices) and Hugging Face (model download). They process data for us under their own terms.

Vercel Web Analytics counts page views and top pages. It uses no cookies and no personal data. Pages such as /u/<name> are counted as /u/:name, and nothing you type or record is sent with an event.

Payments

When you buy credits, the payment provider (such as Lemon Squeezy or Paddle) collects your name, email, billing country and payment details, and handles them under its own privacy policy. Glottago receives and stores only the order number, the product, the amount and currency, and the account it belongs to. We never receive card details. Deleting your account deletes these records from Glottago; the provider keeps the records the law requires.

Your choices

You can leave the leaderboards, turn off online saving, sign out of an email account, or delete your account on your profile page. Deleting removes all of your server data. Your local progress stays on your device until you clear it.
