The passive

The passive puts the focus on what happens: plus the past participle. The past is :

The doer, if named, follows with and the dative: The accusative object of the active sentence becomes the subject.

The perfect passive uses : With a modal verb:

  • Das Haus wird gebaut.
  • Der Brief wurde gestern geschrieben.
  • Das Buch wurde von einem Lehrer geschrieben.
  • Die Tür ist schon repariert worden.
  • Das muss bis morgen gemacht werden.
