Sound plurals

Many masculine words for people take ون in the plural, or ين after a preposition or as an object: المعلمون (the teachers), مع المعلمين. Feminine words replace ة with ات: معلمة, معلمات.

In an idāfa, the ن of ون and ين drops: معلمو المدرسة, مع معلمي المدرسة. Unlike the verb ending, معلمو takes no alif.

Plurals of things, even with ات, take a feminine singular adjective: سيارات جديدة, الساعات الطويلة.
